The Great Mystery

The boat, fighting the waves
Battling the storm, like it had been for days
Ominous clouds, hanging dark and low
Thicker than even the lantern’s soft glow
What had started out as an innocent trip
Was now threatening to the sink the ship
The sailors knew it was their last hour
Yet still they battled the mighty wind’s power
Lighting flashed and lit up the sky
An awful reminder they were going to die
Joining the fish under the roiling waves
Sinking down to a watery grave
Almost as though they were fish bait
Leaving others, when they never returned, to guess at their fate
Their final resting place deep under the sea
Remains to everyone else a great mystery
